| Point intercept and line intercept are commonly used methods for quantifying vegetation coverage. However, existing sighting devices are heavy, hard to use, and expensive. When the methods are used without any sighting device, the selection of the monitoring points is often biased and vegetation cover mismeasured. Synergy’s Laser Point Sampler produces a fine laser beam that provides an accurate and unbiased monitoring point for basal and/or foliar cover monitoring. The point of measurement is determined by what the laser dot hits, allowing at least two attributes to be collected at each data point. By moving aside vegetation in layers without disturbing the sampling beam, sampling multiple layers of foliar canopy and measuring both foliar and basal cover are made simpler and more repeatable.
